Beyond The Limits: The Lessons Learned from a Lifetime's Adventures

Overview

Sir Ranulph Fiennes has been hailed by the GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS as the world's greatest living explorer. Following his most recent unsupported attempt to reach the North Pole which nearly cost him his life, he looks back on three decades of adventures in all corners of the globe and what he has learned from them. Reflecting on such diverse themes as the importance of choosing the right team, monitoring the opposition and dealing with the media, Sir Ranulph presents a breathtaking collection of photographs from his personal archive and discusses the - sometimes painful - lessons he has taken away from each expedition. From the famous and successful Transglobe voyage in the early 1980s to his life-threatening attempt on the North Pole in 2000, this is a riveting and enlightening insight into the life of an extraordinary man.

Reviews

'The world's greatest living explorer' GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS 'My admiration for Ran is unbounded and thank God he exists. The world would be a far duller place without him' HRH PRINCE CHARLES

In typical modest style Sir Ranulph looks back on a lifetime of exploration and shows how his methods can be used to attain success in everyday life. Here was a man who refused to be put off when friends said, 'You've a fat chance' after hearing of his determination to reach the North Pole from Canada - the most difficult route. Their words rang particularly hollow when Ran returned after losing more than a third of his bodyweight and suffering from severe frostbite. This indomitable courage and will to achieve his goals shines out through each of Ran's adventures which he relates here, and he shows that the greatest explorers also have to be good man managers - because back-up teams are notoriously fickle and it is a hard job to keep them onside. Great adventure writing from one of the world's greatest adventurers. (Kirkus UK)
