I very lovingly commend you for writing it, as it certainly is a catharsis of your pent up emotions that others who have experienced such awful acts can relate to and will benefit from your advice as it is written."" -- Bill and Faye Olson, Youth Pastors Book Review 2: ""Read this compelling page turner! While reading Beyond The Bolted Door I found myself constantly pausing for long periods and reflecting. So many metaphors and antidotes to relieve the pains of physical and mental abuse. Although I've neither raped or been raped; I experienced a few transferences while soaking up the words and pages, because the painful experiences could also be social, financial, or even spiritual in nature. Beyond The Bolted Door, through Corine's extremely prolific writing, has a way of soothing the hurt, and not just continuing to mask the leftover wounds. Doing so only allows it to fester deeper and deeper, and then to silently become more deadly. She finally defeated the Goliath which had been plaguing her for decades. The sling is her mind and the stone is her writing. (1 Samuel 17:46) ""This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand. And I will smite thee and take thine head from thee."" Corine the Warrior - You survived the battles and eventually won the war - My friend, I Salute You!!"" -- Joe Wooley; Actor/U.S. Marine (Ret.) Book Review 3: ""In this book I can relate a lot to the part where I too wasn't ready to sit at the King's table because of my shame, faults, insecurities, sins and failures. Maybe even scared I'm not good enough for Him; like He won't take me in because of who I am. I wasn't looking at it the way you did and you're right - maybe all He wants is to save us from our past. We just have to use our past to our advantage, so we can learn from it and grow. I think this book could help a lot of people struggling and just questioning why. It's true and needs to be heard, and I think a lot of people will be able to relate to it. God will always be there to take us in, no matter how damaged we are. I believe it's about the right timing, maybe you didn't say it for 50 years because it was meant to be said in YOUR book right now. I know you will inspire so many others when they do read your book! To speak up, to feel okay with themselves, to know they're not alone, and maybe even save a life!"" -- Katie Cobb, Abuse Survivor Book Review 4: Beyond The Bolted Door was a joy to read with several passages that I went back to because they struck a chord. It is digestible and open in a way that steers away from being dogmatic and remains open to non-religious people. Corine's words were chosen with care and it shines through. She is thoughtful and compassionate, while keeping hope constant, and it's that hope that we cling to when facing the storm, waiting for it to pass. The text allows space for vulnerability and mistakes and more so, calls for it to reach our fullest potential. My favorite passage was this: ""We also have to learn to forgive ourselves. If you have NEVER failed, it is hard to have any compassion on others' imperfections. It is IN our weaknesses and our unintentional falls that we grow grace in our own hearts for others."" -- Ahleea Zama, Content Marketing Specialist" Book Review 1: Very powerfully written and your emotions both then and now come through loud and clear.
