Overview

"In Beyond Survival Advantage Server, Michael Nanton and Chester Connell tell of Caribbean tragedy, triumph and transformation. They do so through a well-researched, deep and detailed history of tennis in the Caribbean. This is unprecedented, a first. This Caribbean context is simultaneously transmitted through memoir. This is Caribbean story: pretext, context, post text. The authors experienced the Caribbean, and outside the region, from the middle of the twentieth century to the present. Yet the Caribbean high-rise, multi-story building of history, with an infinite number of stories, remains largely unconstructed, unwritten. At the same time, unfortunately, a ""modern"", ""post-colonial"" cultural construct - without the significant stories of many Caribbean others - without the larger truth of what was, is being built across the archipelago, even as the authors write. The publishers hope you enjoy reading Beyond Survival Advantage Server and look forward to hearing your thoughts."

BEYOND SURVIVAL: ADVANTAGE SERVER A meditation on the game of tennis in the Caribbean with a subtle plea for the creation of a Caribbean brotherhood in which the citizens of the Islands can take control of their own lives and not be relentlessly ravaged by the human hurricanes of inhumanity. The authors feel that all things are indeed not only possible, but are achievable. Let us make it happen...stand up and be counted. There is only one way forward for us all: Do it! Own it! Live it! This book, too, is intrinsically spliced with great stories from the life of one of the authors......you will be inspired by his survival instincts in the game of tennis and that of life: advantage Chester and Michael! F. Archer Ontario, Canada 5.0 out of 5 stars by Jhadere Seminal Reviewed in Canada on January 4, 2023 I would venture to use the word Seminal in relation to the book. The detailed description of the physical Geography evoke a longing for the beauty we took for granted. The experiences shared by the authors are so personal and real that one cannot help but empathize and share in the successes and the adversities. Finally I hope younger readers take the time to explore the tangential storylines. The importance of cultural icons like Derek Walcott. The exploration of the failed federation and the di dichotomy of our being as a Caribbean and the adversities and tragedies that forged us. Well done!

Author Information

"Michael early pursued a career in telecommunications engineering and then in human resources management. He holds an MBA(HR) from The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados. He has represented tennis in Central America, the Caribbean, North America, South America and Asia, either as athlete or administrator, competitor or coach, archivist or author: All in the name of tennis. A Caribbean citizen and a Canadian, Mike is ""retired"" and lives with his wife, in Ontario. His next: Compete successfully in senior tennis competitions. A radio/tv broadcaster by profession, Chester is grateful to his Caribbean teachers, to Humber College, the Canadian International Development Agency, the Rotary Club and Lewis University. In love with Life and all her ""Caribbean"" expressions, from Bermuda to Barbados to Bonaire, he seeks to record, reveal and regain ""Precaribbean"" wealth extracted by Eurocentrism and to help Caribbeans reinvest in ourselves. We must, he feels, name and claim, together what is ours to manifest. Currently courting the Heart of Asia, Taiwan, where he lives, he plans to marry both loves."
