Table of ContentsDedication Acknowledgments Introduction Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7ReviewsDerek Lea is well placed to bring various software applications together as he operates from a graphic background, teaching at the Centennial College in Toronto. In his introduction he makes a very telling case for avoiding the situation where the computer becomes the safe haven from really creative thought. He holds the view that the creatives can be guilty of retreating into the comfort of familiar software rather than allowing themselves the space for free thinking, unfettered by the mechanics of a computer program. The truly innovative step, that marks out the movers and shakers of our world over the also-rans is the ability to think up new ideas and to execute them in particular ways. Certainly for competition entries which have ambitions to catch the judges' eyes, something new and innovative always goes quite a long way - software alone rarely does that though, you still need the inspiration, so doodle with the pencil first then turn on the computer! It might help to have Beyond Photoshop close to hand along with the tutorial images available at www.beyondphotoshopthebook.com. --Professional Imagemaker Magazine Amazon reviews for Creative Photoshop:
A tutorial book that is CREATIVE AND FUN!!! I really can't recommend this book enough. The tutorials are easy to understand even when dealing with advanced techniques. It could be a bit much if you are brand new to Photoshop but I doubt it. I don't think anyone looking into purchasing a book of this type would be at all disappointed. There are other tutorial books out there but this one has subjects and artwork that are truly engrossing. Not only are the tutorial format and content superb but the author offers an online community that can be accessed through his personal site. Here you can ask for help on problem areas from other readers and often the author himself and also post your own work that the lessons have hopefully helped you to create. An easy 5 stars, great work.
Detailed discussion of sophisticated digital art techniques.
