OverviewFeminist researchers have been critically examining science for more than a century but the recent focus is less on the science and more on the philosophy of science. In this work Sharyn Clough turns a discerning eye on this trend, finding that philosophy, particularly epistemology, is not the most useful focus for feminists engaged in science criticism. Using Donald Davidson's philosophy of language, Clough reveals the problems of epistemology to be unnecessary for feminist science studies and advocates instead a return to the empirical research that guided feminist science studies until a few decades ago. Case studies from feminist work in evolutionary theory serve to illustrate her arguments.
