OverviewThis is the story of Kim Jeong Sook. At the risk of her life, she crosses a frozen river that separates North Korea from China. Between Heaven and Earth is her story as she crosses that river, sojourns through China, and makes it to South Korea. Along the way she encounters and surmounts the dangers and indignities of being on the run as a stateless person in China. Once in South Korea, she expects to find a measure of peace and happiness. The reality is that, although she meets a man and falls in love, she can't be content until she decides she is being called to return to the North and rescue her father and the daughters she left behind. Although it is practically impossible, along with her man, she conceives a plan and heads back to China and the border. Through her internal quest for meaning, she becomes an unlikely hero who moves others to join her. With the Chinese Security Police close on her trail she arrives at the border and crosses over to reunite with her loved ones. This is the story of one woman discovering her destiny and accepting her fate.
