MARILENA CHAUÍ is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Since the 1980s, Chauí's writings have had a profound impact in Brazil, achieving both academic recognition and unprecedented popular success. Chauí's far-reaching work has been formative for a new generation of intellectuals and led to innovative research regarding relations between culture, politics, and the state across the humanities and social sciences.
