Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year: 2001 Edition

Overview

A presidential election like no other, a successful bid for the UnitedStates Senate by former First Lady Hillary Clinton, and the closing monthsof the Clinton administration all provided abundant material in 2000 foreditorial cartoonists to perpetuate their art.The once simple task of counting votes was transformed into a nightmarein the Florida recount. Cartoonists, of course, zeroed in on what quicklybecame a sideshow, exposing human foibles and frailties and partisanposturing wherever they found it.This 29 th edition includes the best works of some 160cartoonists on those and other issues that made headlines during the year.In addition to politics, targets included crime, gun control, theskyrocketing economy, and continuing turmoil in the Middle East. It alsofeatures a special tribute to famed comic strip and editorial cartoonistJeff MacNelly who died during the year.
