She began studying English in China at the age of eight, and she has loved writing in English ever since. She was introduced to Western literature in the early 1980s by her middle-school classmates, and she later fell in love with French and American literature as a teenager and became a big fan of Jane Austen, an English novelist who lived during the eighteenth to nineteenth centuries. After graduating from Guangdong University of Technology in 1993 with a major in electrical engineering, Du worked for many years in various business sectors: consumer goods, industrial manufacturing, real estate, financial investments, services, and government. She set up her own events-planning service company in 2005. She is interested in governmental affairs and diplomacy and worked as an executive assistant to the consul general of Singapore before following her heart by pursuing writing. Bernard Eats Healthy with Mom's Help is her new illustration book based on her published manuscript Let Us Eat Healthy!, and they follows Bernard Goes to Music School. All these titles are from her true-story series about her little boy, Bernard, who is growing up in a northern suburb of Toronto.
