Overview

This book is the result of work carried out to obtain a master's degree in the Graduate Program in Pharmacy at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). The work shows the benefits of vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) supplementation in HIV-positive patients undergoing antiretroviral therapy, through hematological evaluations. The patients were followed for a period of six months, during which four collections were performed to count TCD4 and TCD8 lymphocytes, CD4/CD8 ratio, cell viability, viral load, leukocyte, lymphocyte, platelet, and erythrocyte counts, hematocrit and hemoglobin determination, and serum levels of haptoglobin, ferritin, iron, and transferrin.
