Globalisation and the introduction of new information technologies in the various areas of human activity are having repercussions at economic, social and organisational level. Healthcare organisations have to keep up with and adapt to society's new standards in order to meet the current challenges. Although we are in a time of great progress and high technology, we still have a long way to go. The main objective of health information systems (HIS) is to promote continuity of care. HIS make information available quickly, easily and securely, reduce the time spent on records and promote continuity of care.
