Once personally acquainted with Croce himself and thoroughly con­versant with his works, G. N. G. Orsini is admirably qualified to interpret Croce’s ideas. Before coming to this country in 1947,Professor Orsini was Professor of English Literature at the University of Florence and the Univer­sity of Milan. Since 1949he has been Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Wisconsin.
