From the male dominant tango in Argentina, to Machu Picchu, to the indigenous people of Chile and Peru and the hardscrabble existence of the peasants, to the blue ice of Antarctica, as well as Australia, this collection of poems is an exhilarating ride over a sometimes rough ocean. Marilyn navigates these travels with a keen observance and empathy for the people. I highly recommend this book to both travelers and non-travelers. -John Sierpinski, author of the books Sucker Hole and Vacancy/No Vacancy Who doesn't love travel narratives, in prose or poetry? Because isn't it part of our DNA to go beyond borders, both scary and shimmering? Marilyn Zelke Windau knows this terrain, as traveler and poet. In her most recent collection of poetry, she takes us below the equator, searching for connection across continents, cultures, and history. Whenever and wherever we travel, 'We come to learn, /to glory in magnificence.' Through her eyes we do. -Ronnie Hess, author of six poetry collections and two culinary travel guides, on France and Portugal In Beneath the Southern Crux Marilyn Zelke Windau takes the reader on a rewarding word journey south of the equator. Along the way we learn the history and geography, the myth and legends, the flora and fauna, the cuisine and the people of those distant lands. And she does it with a skilled mix of vivid imagery and poetic language. This is a collection to be enjoyed like Chilean cuisine. Savor it. -Ed Werstein, Regional VP, Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and author of Communique: Poems from the Headlines.
