Author Information

Gregory S. Feltenberger, PhD, MBA, FACMPE, FACHE, has over 23 years of operational health care experience and is the Chief Executive Officer at the Idaho Urologic Institute and the Surgery Center of Idaho. In addition, he is a retired Lieutenant Colonel and Medical Service Corps officer (health services administrator) after 21 years of active duty from the United States Air Force. Previously, he was the Chief Operating Officer and Commander, 10th Medical Support Squadron at the Air Force Academy hospital and prior to that was the Director of Managed Care/TRICARE Flight Commander at the Air Force Academy hospital. Before the Air Force Academy, he was the Chief of Performance Improvement Tool Development at the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General, Air Force Medical Support Agency, Data Modeling & Analysis Office in Falls Church, Virginia. And Greg has been a Chief Information Officer, Chief of Information Management, Group Practice Manager, and Medical Control Center Team Chief. In addition, Greg was competitively selected and completed a 10-month fellowship in Survey Development, Analysis, and Performance Measurement at the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). Greg has extensive experience in the use of bivariate and multivariate statistics, sampling methodologies, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and statistical software. He received a PhD from Old Dominion University in Health Services Research. Also, Greg has a MBA in Information Systems from Kent State University and a BA in Specialized Studies/Biomedical Equipment Technology (Summa Cum Laude). He is a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE), the standard-setting and certification body of the MGMA; a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives; and a Certified Medical Practice Executive in the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Also, he was the President of the Idaho Medical Group Management Association (2016) and is a board member of the Saint Alphonsus Foundation. And finally, Greg has taught several online courses, authored several articles/chapters and research posters, and he has presented at MGMA, ACHE, and Military Health System conferences. David N. Gans, MHSA, FACMPE, is a Senior Fellow at the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) in Englewood, Colorado, where he is the MGMA staff expert on medical group practice management. He is an educational program speaker, author of a monthly column in MGMA Connection, host of the MGMA Executive Session podcast, and he provides technical assistance to the association's staff and members on topic areas of benchmarking, use of survey data, financial management, cost efficiency, physician compensation and productivity, managerial compensation, the resource based relative value scale, employee staffing, cost accounting, medical group organization, and emergency preparedness. He is a retired Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. Dave earned an undergraduate degree in government at the University of Notre Dame, a master's degree in education from the University of Southern California, and a master's degree in health administration from the University of Colorado. He is a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives and a Certified Medical Practice Executive in the American College of Medical Practice Executives.
