The children are great role models; they're adventurous and independent, yet still respectful of their elders. They're adventuresome and daring but know when to set aside their fantasies and deal with realities. Action under pressure, not stunned shock or paralysis, but thinking and doing. And helping in more ways than one; and there is the mystery of a missing ruby and diamond necklace. The adults take a back seat in this book, generally. This book can be seen to gently test how responsible their children are, and it's implicit that the kids are doing their best to prove themselves to their parents.
