A Believer's Journey Through the Stars: Spiritual Reflections on the Wonders of the Universe

Overview

From a former NASA scientist comes a fascinating tour through the cosmos, revealing God's infinite and wondrous presence in the universe. In this thought-provoking guide, Conrad invites readers to explore the vastness of outer spacethrough both the lens of faith and the rigor of science. From the life cycles of stars to the gravitational pull of the moon, each reflection weaves together scripture, scientific insight, reflection questions, and prayers-offering a fresh perspective on howthe heavens truly proclaim God's glory. Drawing on her experience working on NASA's Perseverance Rover, as well as her role as a priest, Conrad bridges the gap between the material and the spiritual, encouraging readers to embrace both curiosity and contemplation. Whether pondering the expanding universe, the delicate balance of Earth's ecosystems, or the mystery of the Trinity across the dimensions of space, this book illuminates how science and faith point toward the divine together. Perfect for seekers, scientists, and stargazers alike, A Believer's Journey through the Stars is an invitation to stand in awe of God's creation-and to find deeper meaning in its beauty.

Reviews

“Believer’s Journey provides a grand tour of life in cosmic context. With a beautiful back and forth between cutting edge science and insightful theology, Conrad invites us into the mysteries of creation and challenges us to ask for ourselves what God is doing in the world… and how we might be part of that transformation.” * The Rev. Dr. Lucas Mix, evolutionary biologist, Episcopal Priest, and Warden of The Society of Ordained Scientists * ""Conrad has a unique ability to view a problem, a point of view, on this or any other world in myriad ways almost instantly, and then produce insights that not only probe the simplicity of complex issues but also codify that complexity into a simple resolution. This is never more apparent than in the juxtaposition of artist and scientist, the ordained and the empirical, the designer and the builder, all while caring with humility and grace. In reading this book, I am struck by another similarity between Pan's scientific and spiritual calling, that of the transducer. In the case of Mars, the transducer signals potential life on that planet. In her spiritual calling, Conrad has naturally become a different type of transducer, one that takes signals from non-physical realms, the realms of humanity and spirituality, of hope and feelings and converts them into understanding and action."" * Andrew Steele, Senior Staff Scientist, Earth and Planetary Laboratory, Carnegie Institution for Science * “For Conrad, science and faith are not adversaries but can accompany each other in fathoming the wonders of God’s magnificent creation. Drawing from the ancient spiritual texts of the Bible, Conrad arouses our curiosity about our natural world and opens our imagination to the insights that science provides. Highly recommended in stimulating our mind as well as our soul!” * Gale A. Yee, Nancy W. King Professor of Biblical Studies emerita, Episcopal Divinity School and 2019 President of the Society of Biblical Literature *
