OverviewThis paper examines the influence of beliefs on the migration histories of the Hungarian minority in Austria. Based on theoretical findings from the fields of migration, acculturation, communication, cultural identity, cognitive dissonance and developmental psychology, the study uses migration and acculturation processes as examples to highlight the significance of reality constructions, how and why they change, and what opportunities they offer individuals in social systems.
