Overview
The 5th Supplementary Series of the ""Beilstein"" Handbook (4th Edition) covers the compounds reported in the primary literature from 1960 up to 1980. Volume 19 deals with heterocyclic compounds containing two or more chalcogen atoms as the only ring-heteroatoms. Subvolume 19/12 comprises the final part of Volume 19. It deals with those heterocycles containing 4 chalcogen ring-heteroatoms (Heterocyclic Class: 4 O) not covered in the preceding subvolume and in addition all other chalcogen heterocycles containing 5 or more ring-heteroatoms. These include, of course, the crown ethers, the topic which formed the focal point for 1987's Nobel Prize in chemistry. Indeed, since a lot of work was carried out in this subject during the 1960's and 70's, much of Subvolume 19/12 is devoted to it.
