Overview

In 1861, when war erupted between the States, President Lincoln made an impassioned plea for volunteers. Determined not to remain on the sidelines, Emma Edmonds cropped her hair, donned men's clothing, and enlisted in the Union Army. Everyone, even her fellow soldiers, thought she was a man. But Emma wanted to do more. When she heard a key Union spy had been captured and executed, she volunteered to take his place. Author Information

Seymour Reit (1918-2001) was the author of more than eighty books for young readers. An experienced animated cartoonist, he was also the creator of Casper the Friendly Ghost. Tavia Gilbert has recorded hundreds of titles across a wide span of genres, including Erica Spindler, romantic thrillers; John Scalzi, science fiction; and Jeanienne Frost, fantasy. She has received four Audie nominations and has won three AudioFile Earphones Awards for the titles The Obituary Writer, Sing Them Home, and The Day of the Pelican. In addition to voice acting, Gilbert is an accomplished producer, singer, and theater actor.
