OverviewMemories of my childhood - riding Fleet Foot, my stick horse in the back yard; making Mulberry pies and pastries; writing coded messages in invisible ink; creating a back yard circus the equal of Barnum and Bailey, all this with a sense of endless, leisurely time - swept over me one afternoon as I reminiscenced in a pensive mood. Quickly following these thoughts were those of how vastly different my memories would be when my grandchildren mused about their own childhoods and compared them to mine. But at the same time, I was struck by the fact that while vastly different - separated by decades and experienced in a digital world unimaginable in my youth - similarities and never-to-be diminished universal truths existed between the two. The yin/yang of this relationship, this dichotomy, captured my attention. Today family stories are most often passed down from generation to generation, in the oral tradition of ages past, around the dinner table or at special family celebrations, but a tangible, written account is valuable, too. It is in the historic sense of a chronicler that I pass these stories on to you. Just thinking about going through my life without that skill is scary! Your dad was a forward thinker for pushing you into that class. Jean Hunt I laughed and laughed and laughed as it reminded me of my childhood in so may ways!! I don't know which part I loved the most!! How did you remember so much? Maggie Taylor 'The Incident of the Slug in the Evening' is my favorite. Most girls can totally identify with the unthinkable catastrophe of having a sticky, yet slimy slug, stuck to her bare foot. You can't touch it, you can't walk on it squishing it further into your toes. All you can do is scream for Mommy. Your writing is just perfect, your selection of words and the way your stories unfold are so well balanced, like beautiful music. Keep up your good work.
