Author Information

The oldest of seven children, son of a share-cropper in Arkansas, OJ Blount was born May 8, 1926. His family traveled from farm to farm, working the land. He was often taken out of school to help his father on the farm. Without shoes or food, at age 18 he joined the military hoping for a better life. He served active duty during WWII and the Korean War. In his twenties he married and started a family in Tennessee. It was here he became fascinated with the honeybee. He has since devoted his life to helping the honeybee survive. He later moved to lower Alabama where he established a 29 acre sanctuary for the bee with over 50 hives. He planted flowers, bushes and trees throughout paying attention to have something in bloom through out the year from Spring to Winter. He gave lectures to local clubs and presented educational displays about his findings. He joined all the area beekeeping associations and then founded his own in 2010 called the Queen's Castle Beekeeping Association. In 2014 he was awarded Beekeeper of the Year in the State of Alabama. Now at age 90 in the year 2016 he continues to share his knowledge with all that want to benefit from his years of experience.
