This book will help the reader gain an understanding and insight of Special Education. How Special Education developed through the 1960's and the 1970's. Which approaches worked and which did not. The Special Education system was still in its infancy. Telephones were owned and operated by one carrier. Typewriters where almost all manual. While the number of horse and buggies moving people about were the same as there are in today's society. You will gain a wonderful understanding of just what life was during that time period. How one creative student managed to navigate a school system. An educational system that was designed to promote failure. How his issues went from an unknown or at best described as he is just being lazy to a challenge that affects millions of students today. Whether it be ADD or one of its varieties the language has certainly grown up and exploded. I was there I grew up in a school system that had no idea what was holding my education process back. I lived the frustration. I cried the tears and silently cursed the system that was pushing a square peg through a round hole. I survived and some might say that I thrived to get to the other side. The components of my learning issues will always be with me. Yet the strategies that minimalize those components are now my tools for life. I want to invite you to take a look back at my journey. Grow alongside of me as you and someone around you is traveling this journey. It is not an easy trip. Yet knowing my experiences will help you and your family gain a road map that will be invaluable.
