OverviewBECOMING PABLO O'HIGGINS tells the intriguing story of how a blond-haired, blue-eyed Presbyterian from Salt Lake City, Utah became a celebrated Mexican muralist. Born Paul Higgins in 1904, O'Higgins traveled to Mexico City in 1924 to see the mural renaissance involving Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. He became an assistant to Diego Rivera, working with him on three of his most important murals. O'Higgins co-founded one of the world's most famous political graphic art workshops, the Taller de Grafica Popular. O'Higgins lived in Mexico for the rest of his life but retained his U.S. citizenship until 1962, enabling him to produce murals and political graphic art in both the U.S. and Mexico. (O'Higgins's murals can be seen in Seattle and Honolulu as well as in Mexico.)
