Mitchell was desperate and there was a real chance he wouldn't blink first. Mitchell was in a stolen '57 Oldsmobile sedan coming straight at me at 50 miles per hour. I was hurtling toward him at the same speed - except I was just above the road. Headed straight for him. In an airplane. I pushed the control stick forward and descended until I was about six feet above the road. The prop wash was picking up small stones from the gravel track and pinging them off my landing gear.
