While pursuing the film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, Hand relocated to San Francisco where she worked as a development executive, co-owned a boutique production company, and started a family. Widowed suddenly and unexpectedly, Hand moved with her three young children to the DC area and carved out a successful career as communications consultant, including a stint as a political appointee for the Obama administration.
