Reviews

""Straightforward, companionable narration fluently interweaves Hebrew and Yiddish vocabulary, and flattened ink drawings, softly colored with digital markers, have an everyday quality."" —Publishers Weekly ""Gehl’s lively text evokes an intergenerational relationship characterized by trust, joy, and tenderness. Rich with background details, Baker’s lovely, soft-hued illustrations depict a fully realized urban landscape, populated by a diverse community. Sure to have readers verklempt."" —Kirkus

Author Information

Laura Gehl is the author of more than fifty books for young readers. Before becoming a full-time children's book author, she taught high school, conducted research in a neurobiology lab, and worked as a science writer. Laura lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland, with her husband and four children. Every summer, her bucket list includes trying a new hike and a new flavor of ice cream. Sarah Lynn Baker is an artist working in the Hudson Valley. She is inspired by quill and ink, the natural beauty of her surroundings, and the powerful older women in her family, both here and gone. By day, she also runs the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators alongside her dedicated staff and volunteers. She lives in a spooky old house with her husband, two daughters, two dogs, and one very mean cat. This is Sarah's first picture book.
