Because of Amy: How My Daughter's Death Gave Me Life (And How Your Pain Can Free You Too)

Overview

Rita Henry is no stranger to pain. When her daughter Amy died in her arms at 9 days old, it broke her heart wide open and exploded her world as she knew it. But pain is never the end of the story. Two years later, sobbing alone in a bathtub, trying to make sense of it all, Rita heard Amy's voiceless voice of wisdom: My life-and my death-are an invitation for you to show up and really live. She was right. Amy was the catalyst Rita needed to face and process the pain from her past-not just Amy's death, but the sexual assault, rageful father, and everything in between-so she could finally be free. Because of Amy is the story of transformation, of using the most devastating pain imaginable to learn how to connect with yourself and, eventually, live more joyfully than you ever thought possible. Rita's story is proof that no matter what you've been through, you can do your work and heal.

Reviews

""Your writing is so vivid and deeply personal that it immerses the reader completely. The way you describe your experiences, with such detail and raw honesty, draws in the reader, including me, so profoundly that it feels as if we are walking beside you, feeling every triumph and every trial. Your book weaves an incredible narrative arc-moving from moments of pain and struggle to breakthroughs, triumphs, and ultimately fulfillment. This journey is universally resonant; almost everyone will see pieces of their own life reflected in your story, which is precisely what makes your book so impactful and valuable."" - Dr. Jonathan Parker ""I've known Rita for a number of years and I knew her story and how Amy had died in her arms. The part that I never quite understood was how it broke her heart open until I read the first draft of this book a year and a half ago. It truly did break her heart wide open and in its own way, my heart opened too as I read the gut-wrenching and heart-warming story of Rita's healing journey. This book will change your life if you're willing to allow your heart to open a bit more with each word."" - Sheila Franzen, The Spiritual Geek ""I don't cry much (though mom-life has changed that a bit). Mostly, I've lived a life of not touching feelings. I've worked for years to unlearn that, BUT... This book had me touching a lot of feelings and crying. (Like sobbing that I love my daughter so much and that our parents are going to die some day at the same time). It taught me how to keep working on having my own back-and not blaming others when I don't. Thank you for doing your work because it's a gift to me, to my husband, and to our daughter. I'm in awe and proud of you for being so vulnerable."" - Kaitie

Author Information

Rita Henry is an Intuitive Guide and Healer who helps people release stored pain from their past because she's faced her own. From sexual assault to the death of her 9-day-old daughter, Rita's gotten her ass kicked by life and now helps others heal theirs. She calls the process of seeing how you got where you are, and releasing the charged emotions keeping you held in pain and struggle, ""doing your work."" Doing your work shifts your consciousness and changes your brain. And on the other side, everything in your life is better (yes, even your relationship with your mother-in-law). Rita makes it easier to do your work by naming truth, holding a safe space for you to show up exactly as you are (messy hair, pissy pants, and all), and making energetic shifts that quiet the chaos within, so you can make peace with your troubled past and create a life you fricken' love.
