OverviewWhat if the pursuit of justice requires more than activism? What if it also demands beauty? In a world marked by division and suffering, beauty has the power to heal, and justice becomes most compelling when it is truly beautiful. In Beauty and Justice, justice advocate Haejin Shim Fujimura and internationally renowned artist Makoto Fujimura explore how beauty and justice are two sides of the same gospel calling. Through stories from their global work in the arts, advocacy, and cultural renewal, they invite listeners to - discover how beauty sustains justice work and prevents burnout, - understand why justice without beauty can become harsh and ineffective, and - embrace practices for cultivating a ""generative life"" of courageous service. For artists, leaders, and changemakers, this book offers a bold invitation to partner with God in restoring what is broken and building a more beautiful future. Born and raised in Southern California by immigrant parents, Rebecca Lam is an Asian American-Pacific Islander narrator. Lover of traveling, pickled veggies, and rescue animals, Rebecca resides in Los Angeles, California, with her too-curious-for-his-own-good snowshoe cat, Clark Gable. Myles Dabbs is a first-generation half-Filipino narrator and voice actor born and raised in the Midwest. Growing up in a multicultural family gave him a unique perspective and appreciation for different walks of life that he uses to aid in his storytelling. It also gave him a knack for picking up different accents, which he uses to help fill his roster of characters. He has a background in audio/video communications and production, which led him to Los Angeles and ultimately to voice acting. For over a decade, Myles has brought his experiences to indie projects and lent his voice to a number of characters, including a talking sock. He also enjoys studying languages, with a special fondness for Japanese, which has helped him to quickly learn and pronounce non-English words and phrases he may come across. His melodic tenor voice is a great fit for teen and young adult male characters coming of age in worlds of myth and fantasy. As a gay man, Myles has a passion for stories that shed light on the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community. He also enjoys sharing bone-chilling horror stories, a genre he first fell in love with reading Goosebumps books in his youth. Outside of the booth, Myles is an avid swimmer, baker, and singer; a passion that stems from the family function jam-outs and karaoke sessions of his youth. He also enjoys board games, painting minis for D&D, and is an all-around nerd and kid at heart. As such, he is still holding out hope for his X-Gene to someday kick in.
