Author Information

Born in a church compound in 1935 to newly converted Christian parents, Mabea's early life got rooted in Christianity in rural Kenya. He was among the first of his peers to get a formal education. In his academic and professional life, situations beyond his control compelled him to jump some steps including secondary education and serving as deputy headmaster. Some bottlenecks along the way would have made him throw in the towel but he soldiered on. His outstanding performance as headmaster at schools in Kisii, Kenya, got him elevated to serve in positions of education and staffing officer in Kisii and Siaya districts. Mabea oversaw the implementation of government policies and was at the forefront in streamlining teacher recruitment and actualization of the school equipment scheme and the free milk programme, which were President Daniel Moi's flagship projects meant to enhance the success of the 8-4-4 system. Inevitably, he rubbed some the wrong way. He too was a victim of backlash in his pursuit for excellence as a public servant. Nevertheless, along the way, Mabea moulded successful pupils now serving in various capacities in various parts of the world. He mentored many teachers and other professionals he interacted with. Even as he pursued teaching, and education administration, and later in retirement, Mabea served pyrethrum and tea farmers. As an opinion shaper and community leader, his imprints in elective politics remain evident. As age catches up with him, the father of ten spends much of his time at his home in Borabu constituency in the company of his wife Elizabeth. He loves reading, encouraging the young generation, and supervising activities on his farm. Joshua Araka is a Kenyan journalist with multi-media skills and rich cross-cutting experience in TV news, newspaper reporting and editing, photography, video documentaries production, and speech writing. Araka's articles have been published in news outlets like Daily Nation, NTV, The Standard, and The Scholar. He has won awards and recognition in photography and film production competitions. Away from journalism, Araka is a published literary writer and upcoming biographer. His titles include; Peppered Path, Chronicles of the Idler Volume One, and Korondopanic! (a Kenyan's satirized diary during the epic COVID-19 pandemic). The father of three lives in his home county, Nyamira.
