Battles Within: My Journey of Self & Service

Overview

What would you be willing to risk to simply do the right thing? In his debut book, Adam DeMarco chronicles his journey from his early childhood days to his call to arms after 9/11, from the deployments to southwest Asia to the highs and lows of the political campaign trail, and from picking up the pieces of failure after failure to finding his renewed sense of purpose. He also gives a no-holds-barred firsthand account of three of the most significant events to occur in recent American history: the protests at Lafayette Square, the Capitol insurrection, and the fight to save Americans and allies in Afghanistan. With his characteristic flair and love of history, Adam provides a detailed account of his journey of discovering his true inner self through his military and public service, all the while openly battling invisible wounds

Battles Within tells the story of a young man who chooses, again and again, to take the difficult path of service and integrity rather than the path of comfort and ease. Adam DeMarco's journey includes real struggles along with moments of failure and doubt, but his commitment to Charlie Mike --continue the mission--never wavers. At this moment when so much about America seems tarnished and unstable, DeMarco reminds us that the virtues of courage, service, and sacrifice remain alive and well in our nation. - Dr. Max Klau, author, coach, speaker, scholar, and leadership development consultant. ...DeMarco will leave readers inspired to not only self-reflect on their own journey, but more importantly, ask themselves how they can positively impact the journeys of others. - LA Weekly A compelling story of overcoming adversity, an inspiring narrative of service, and a heartening account of standing up for what you believe in even if that means standing alone. - General David H. Petraeus, US Army (Ret.), former Commander of the Surge in Iraq, US Central Command, and Coalition Forces in Afghanistan and former Director of the CIA Adam presents a stunning and authentic reflection of a life of service and an unexpected path of becoming his best self. This is all any of us can ever hope for, to make a contribution to the world in some small way and Charlie Mike by boldly accepting our mistakes. - The Honorable Patrick J. Murphy, 32nd Under Secretary of the Army Adam DeMarco's life has been distinguished by service, sacrifice, and courage, and his book should be an inspiration to others to pursue their dreams and serve righteous causes bigger than themselves. - David H. Laufman, former Department of Justice official, veteran lawyer. Some of the toughest battles today's American Warfighters face are back home and within. We all need to [be] repurposed, just like any good piece of military equipment. - Nate Boyer, Green Beret, Cofounder of MVP
