The official 1935 British War Office guide to the Battle of the Marne in September 1914, the action in which the German advance by von Kluck's First and von Bulow's Second Armies on Paris was checked at the instigation of General Gallieni and then turned back by the action of the French Fifth and Sixth Armies and the BEF, and which changed the whole course of the Great War.
