From Ibn Rabban to Ibn Hazm (Brill, 1996) Wilferd Madelung (Ph.D. Hamburg) is Laudian Professor of Arabic, University of Oxford (emeritus). He has published extensively on the early history of Islam and on religious movements in medieval Islam, including Religious and Ethnic Movements in Medieval Islam (Ashgate Variorum, 1992) Sabine Schmidtke (D.Phil.
