Reviews

...provides clearly written abstracts outlining the authority and scope of each title and gives a brief critical evaluation and, where applicable, references to the non-print alternatives currently available...very useful for its extensive coverage and intelligent, well-written appraisals of the most important U.S. imprints and a number of European and other international sources. The essays in the final section will be of interest to anyone with the prospect of developing a business information collection and attendant services for the first time. - Feliciter Business Libraries will welome this thorough revision of a standard business reference tool....I recommend that any library building a business collection purchase this new edition and use it for collection development and as a reference handbook. - Collection Mgmt This book, written primarily for the American market, aims to inform business librarians of the sources of information which are available in this subject area....If I was an American Business Librarian I would keep it near to hand at all times. For British Librarians, this is a vital reference work and well worth buying....The book is very well researched and would be an asset to any reference collection. - Managing Information The resource is excellent for business collection development in all levels and types of libraries. The bibliographic essay could prove useful to teachers, problem solvers, and those with an interest in the area of business library research. The state-of-the-art essays are particularly fruitful for practicing librarians in the field as well as for students. All in all, the volume serves as a solid handbook for the development of business libraries and librarians. - Library Acquisitions: Practice & Theory Since the 2nd edition of this book dates from 1989, an updated edition is very welcome. An excellent core list of titles for business libraries, it lists books published as late as 1993 and 1994, notes major changes in standard sources, summarizes authority and scope, and offers brief but useful evaluations. A list of 200 basic reference sources can serve as a checklist for building a business library. A second section consists of an annotated bibliography of articles on business librarianship, 1976-94. Section 3 is a collection of subject essays by librarians on issues of interest to business librarians, covering a variety of subjects (e.g., acquisition, training, and online databases). This very useful text for all types of business librarians could also serve as a textbook for courses in business reference. - Choice The Basic Business Library is recommended, especially to students of business collection development, practtioners who are new to the task of collecting business information resources, and those responsible for managing small collections as well as to veteran business library practitioners with sufficient funds to update their professional bookshelf. - Sheila S. Interner, Professor Emerita, Simmons GSLIS at Mount Holyoke College/
