Barbara wurde als Tochter des ungarischen Wojewoden Stephan Z polya und dessen schlesischer Gemahlin Hedwig von Teschen (1469-1521), Tochter von Przemys aw II. (1420-1477), Herzog von Teschen, geboren. Am 28. Februar 1512 heiratete sie in Krakau den polnischen K nig Sigismund I. und wurde in der Wawelkathedrale zur K nigin von Polen und Gro f rstin von Litauen gekr nt.
