ਬਰਫ਼ 'ਚ ਉੱਗੇ ਅਮਲਤਾਸ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪਰਵਾਸੀ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦੀ ""ਸਾਂਝੀ"" ਆਤਮਕਥਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਬ 'ਚ ਜੰਮੇ ਤੇ ਪੜ੍ਹੇ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਦੇ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ 'ਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਤੇ ਵਿਚਰਨ ਦੇ ਨਿੱਕੇ-ਨਿੱਕੇ ਪਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਵਾਰਤਕ ਦਾ ਤਾਣਾ ਬਾਣਾ ਬੁਣਦੀ-ਬੁਣਦੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਰੋਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ। Baraf ch Ugge Amaltas is written in Punjabi (Gurmukhi). The book follows the trail of a Punjabi boy, who after enjoying his student life to the fullest in India, moves to North America. Unlike a typical memoire, the author brings his real-life stories through intertwined poetry and prose with a sprinkle of humor and fictional tidbits. The first chapter, Bimbabli, intimately stitches his childhood imagery. The second chapter, Google Ton Pehlan (Prior to Google), reimagines how the pre-internet age led to stories that wouldn't have happened otherwise. The third chapter, Parvaas (Migration), takes the reader through various stages of a Punjabi immigrant living in the West. The fourth chapter, Baraf Ch Ugge Amaltas (Amaltas grown in the Snow) is about the children of first gen immigrants and their internal and external challenges. Chapter five, Kaviology (The science of Poetry) enumerates various colors and shades of poetry in the context of migration related themes. Chapter six, Greta Thunberg De Khaab (Dreams of Greta Thunberg) touches upon the side-effects of green revolution & economic growth on the environment back home through the eyes of a migrant. Chapter Seven, Tikkri Border, is a visualization of the recent Farmers' Agitation in a dream while sitting in the foreign land. The last chapter, Nago Aye Nago Jaasee, completes this journey with Covid ups & downs and metaphysical thoughts about life.

Author Information

Gurinder J Singh is an avid poet and past intervarsity India mime champion. He has been providing volunteer services to support poetry and other community pursuits in the Montreal area since 1996. An alumnus of Northeastern University Boston, GND University Amritsar, and GN Engineering College Ludhiana, Gurinder is the country head for Merative Canada's consulting practice and leads transformation of Social Benefit Programs by federal & provincial governments. He started is career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture in India and later spent two decades with Canadian National Railways followed by IBM Watson Health Canada, prior to Merative.He co-authored 'Lafzan di loye', a poetry collection by Punjabi Kalam Kendar Montreal. Gurinder and his wife, Jagjit, live in Dollard-des-Ormeaux with their two children.
