Overview

Bandits & Rebels is an anthology of some of Jules Verne's earliest work, including the first appearance of a submarine in his fiction. As well as his interest in science, it illustrates his geographical and historical range, with San Carlos, a story about smugglers in Spain; a story about the siege of Rome in 1848; and Martin Paz, about an indigenous uprising in Peru in the 1830s. The audiobook includes a detailed introduction by Sorbonne professor and Verne expert Daniel Compére.

Author Information

Jules Verne (1828-1905) was born in Nantes, France. After training for the law, he chose instead to write plays and later novels, signing a contract with the publisher Jules Hetzel to produce two novels a year. He pioneered the use of scientific and geographical research to write global and sometimes interstellar adventure novels, most of them gathered under the general series heading of Extraordinary Voyages. He wrote over 60 books, including several works of nonfiction, a number of short stories, and several plays. Tad Davis lives in Philadelphia. He has an MFA in Theater from Temple University and has narrated a number of Jules Verne-related books. He has recently begun turning his attention to translating them as well.
