Parents and caregivers concerned with fostering a young child's speech and language development would do well to spend a moment with Bailey. - Michael Jasnow, PhD, clinical psychologist Hats off to Mary Calvert and Sharon Lockwood for creating an engaging and important book. As a pediatrician, parents ask me every day what they can do to help their children thrive. Although I talk about diet, safety and development at every visit, it never dawned on me to focus in a proactive way on a child's speech and language development. The information presented in this book will not only nurture young minds, but the educational strategies printed throughout the book will also teach parents the specifics of how they are helping their children along the way. I plan to have copies of Bailey Speaks! in my waiting room. - Howard J. Bennett, MD, author of The Fantastic Body: What Makes You Tick and How You Get Sick Bailey Speaks! Is a fun, clever, storybook that 'barks' with a purpose to young readers, parents, and teachers. Bailey is just the right companion for the child who needs a book who 'speaks' to them. I think the book is purposeful and clever -- and fun. It will find its way into the hands of a child, parent, therapist, and teacher who will find it both useful and graceful. - Jack Gantos, 2012 Newbery Medal winner, author of Rotten Ralph and other children's stories I have never seen anything like Calvert and Lockwood's wonderful new book, Bailey Speaks! I am a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician who appreciates the importance of stimulating language development in all children. This book is a gem. It is fun to read. The beautiful illustrations will bring a smile to your face. Through this charming story of a boy and a dog, the author teaches parents, teachers, and children about normal speech development. Key lessons are both implied in the story and made explicit in regularly recurring dog bone embedded messages. I will be enthusiastically recommending Bailey Speaks! to all parents and professionals. Can't wait to see the next book in this promising series! - Daniel G.
