BackCountry

Overview

With their ten-month-old daughter in tow, Amy and Mark are ready for their first, much-anticipated backcountry hiking adventure. But their carefully planned journey turns into a nightmare when they encounter a dangerous bear. As the huge predator stalks their small family, tensions mount and tempers flare. Soon Amy is forced to come to terms with the truth: that she has lost sight of who she is, and that her partner is not the man she believed he was. BackCountry is a quick-paced, suspenseful read that's perfect for readers who love adventure in the wild outdoors-but it also examines how easy it is to fall into abusive relationships, and how hard it can be to return to ourselves in the aftermath. With high-adrenaline chases, thoughtful flashbacks, and meaty interpersonal revelations, this novel is sure to appeal to readers who want to set off into the backcountry of the human psyche.

Author Information

S. L. Swan has always been a writer and teller of stories, though she's taken a circuitous route to publication. She has longed to explore careers along the boundary lines of geologist, anthropologist, biologist, historian, astronaut, explorer, travel writer, nutritionist and dietician, actor, chef, and even park ranger and has determined that writing will give her these outlets. In her free time, Swan loves hiking and nature walks, gardening, painting, and reading voraciously. She isn't located quite close enough to the mountains for her liking, but she's happy to live with her family in a lovely old bungalow in a small city nearby.
