Backbone Black Bone Woman

Overview

Not simply a collection of poetry but a chronology of being. Blackbone Black Bone Woman bids you to bring yourself to yourself and to all that life is. These poems explore what it means to be a daughter of the sun, a daughter of the deep, and a daughter of the dust while journeying life's griefs, joys and love. You will find yourself here.

Reviews

""A love letter to Black women that pulls you close and gently coaxes you open in one piece while weaving you back together in the next. Both musing and meditation, this collection wields rhythm and breath in a way that demands witness and pause. Mesmerizing."" - Yolanda Marie ""Backbone Black Bone Woman is a harvest."" - Michael J. Ivory Jr.

Author Information

Chioma Sheri is a Philly native of Nigerian and Jamaican descent who has a hate-like relationship with writing bios. She has a background in African American Studies and deeply believes in the power of storytelling and community memory-keeping, specifically with regard to how we hold and support stories from Africa and the diaspora. A Listener, Holder of space, Lover of God and People - She's a sometimes Poet, sometimes Performer, all times Learner, Storyteller, and Bearer of Laughs. You can find her cooking, researching, spending time with the people she loves, cracking herself up, and co-hosting book clubs and writing circles.
