Erick Mertz is a professional ghostwriter and editor with over twenty years of experience crafting compelling stories across multiple genres. A recovered weekend filmmaker and former screenplay award winner, he now focuses the bulk of his creativity on the world of independent publishing in the form of a self-published series of paranormal mysteries.Back based in his hometown of Oregon City, Oregon where he lives with his wife and son, Erick has always drawn on the unique creative energy embedded in the Pacific Northwest's shadowy landscapes and cultural depth. His favorite horror authors are John Langan and Stephen King, he loves Twin Peaks (even the weirdo Windom Earle stuff) and given his choice of horror movies, give him yet another viewing of ""The Thing"" any day. In past lives, James Strayer has been, professionally speaking, an industrial/ experimental record label drone and co-owner of a production company called Two Penguins. He'd always considered himself a Reader (as Bill Hicks intones) gradually drifting away over the years, balancing time with other interests. To avoid scrolling during the pandemic, he threw himself back into reading, almost as a full time job. While horror was always in the blood, it was only in 2020 when becoming interested in small press horror truly took hold. When not buried in a book, he can be found at the Hollywood Theater in Portland, OR, hosting a horror franchise podcast called ""This May Hurt a Bit"" or watching Twin Peaks for the 100th time.
