There is no expectation that the reader is already familiar with the subjects contained-whether the ""Anunnaki"" deities, the ""land between the rivers"" in the Ancient Near East, or the structure of modern ""Wiccan"" tradition. It is in this sequence that Rowen Gardner edits together the data for this anthology: starting with ""Sumerian Religion"" to introduce the Anunnaki pantheon of Sumerians and Babylonians; then ""Priestess of Babylon"" to describe beliefs and practices as they originally appeared in ancient Mesopotamia; and finally, ""The Witch's Handbook"" where we see how the Old Ways evolved into a formula useful for crafting modern traditions of paganism. The lore contained is drawn from Ancient Near Eastern cuneiform tablet records, the original native writings describing the actions and attributes of their deities. This Anunnaki pantheon is quite special to the ancient world and quite far-reaching; because it influenced the nature of other later emerging ""celestial"" mythologies thereafter and the entire structure of understanding ""gods"" and ""goddesses"" in the very first historical civilizations. Mesopotamia is also unique its union (or absence) of Divine ""sex/gender"" characteristics. We find both a god and goddess (as a ""Divine Couple"") representing aspects like the Moon and Sun, rather than polarizing them. This is just one of the many major implications when developing modern ""Babylonian Wicca"" traditions for the New Age.

JOSHUA FREE is a mystic philosopher, world-renowned underground occult expert and prolific author of 100 books on ancient history, esoteric archeology, alternative science, practical occultism, metahumanism, and NexGen Systemology since 1995. He has been involved with practical Earth Magick since he was 12, starting with his first initiation into Pheryllt Druidism in the mid-1990's and is Bard of the Twelfth Chair at New Forest Centre for Magickal Studies. He independently founded Mardukite Ministries (Mardukite Zuism) in 2008, and is the Director of the Mardukite Research Organization (now Mardukite Academy) along with its advanced New Thought division, The Systemology Society. In 2020, he established a permanent HQ, launching the Founding Church of Mardukite Zuism and Mardukite Academy of Systemology. He permanently retired to the Mardukite Systemology Ascension Hermitage in August 2025, ending a 30-year literary career, KYRA ""LIGHT"" KAOS joined the Mardukite Chamberlains (Mardukite Research Org) in 2015. To assist in preserving the legacy of the Org, she co-founded JFI Publications (The Joshua Free Imprint), which replaced the underground Mardukite Truth Seeker Press in 2018, and serves as Director of its Graphics Dept. She assisted with establishing the Founding Church of Mardukite Zuism and the Mardukite Academy of Systemology in 2020. While she has made many behind-the-scenes contributions to the continuing research and development for nearly a decade, ""Priestess of Babylon"" is her debut literary publication. ROWEN GARDNER is an Alumni member of the Mardukite Chamberlains and one of several esteemed volunteer Publication Officers of the Joshua Free Imprint (JFI Publications), working remotely from the U.K. In addition to writing under another pseudonym, they have contributed forewords and editing efforts to several titles by Joshua Free, including Novem Portis, The Druid's Handbook, The Witch's Handbook and the Draconomicon series.
