Overview

Az A Child is for anyone who is or ever was a child. Embark on a poetic, musical, mysterious, eclectic, and wondrous journey through the eyes of the child in you. Step into a world where poetry and illustrations dance. With echoes of ancient and indigenous African science and technology, Caribbean harmony, and awareness of infinite potential, Az A Child evokes magic. The magic of imagination, curiosity, courage, love, play, chaos, freedom, intuition, rebelliousness, resilience, connection, and the present moment. All of which arise when we become Az A Child. Read and remember treasures you may have lost ... then follow your unique path to find them. Throughout history, cultures across the world have honored the power of childhood imagination as a path to self-understanding and self-realisation. Like fables, proverbs and folktales this beautifully illustrated, full-color poetry collection is for the child within us all. Whether read alone by adults and children, or shared between parents and children, Az A Child brings us back to who we truly are. Through rhythmic verses, lyrical illustrations, and playful rhyme, it invites you to remember what it means to wonder. With awareness of limitless potential and inspired by ancient and indigenous African science and technology as well as Caribbean harmonies, this book celebrates the magic of being Az A Child. It is a poetic reminder that imagination knows no age and dreams know no limit.

Author Information

Keisha Taylor began writing poetry as a child growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, and fell in love with its rhythm and rhyme from the very beginning. Writing has remained a constant thread throughout her life, evolving as she has. Az a mother now living in Europe, poetry is a way to also reflect, question, and understand this new chapter. The poems in this collection were shaped over transformative years of motherhood, which were filled with wonder, bliss, chaos, rediscovery and rememberance. Today, Keisha is an interdisciplinary researcher whose work explores the connections between seemingly unconnected ideas. She draws inspiration and knowledge from ancient and Indigenous African ways of knowing, science and technologies that reference our deep interconnectedness with each other, our earth, and our universe. Through poetry, she reconnects with the child within and reaches toward self-realisation and infinite potential.
