Reviews

The author aimed to summarise much of the available knowledge in avian medicine and surgery, which this book has successfully achieved, and I discovered new information in every chapter... well set out with many astute observations... chapters are extremely useful for any veterinarian, as they vividly describe the basics of avian medicine and how to apply them... many practical tips and scenarios... [images] are of high quality and are well labelled... a comprehensive and up to date list of formulary, references and biological values, which provide a much needed quick reference... a necessary addition to all avian veterinary libraries... extremely useful for all veterinarians in developing a practical approach to common pet and aviary bird medical and surgical problems. -- A Rosenwax Australian Veterinary Journal 20110615 Several avian books are available for practitioners working with pet birds and most claim to be comprehensive and easy to use. Unfortunately, many don't succeed in accomplishing both aims. This book does. It is an excellent addition to the clinic shelf and should be required reading for veterinarians caring for pet birds. (3 stars) -- Julia Whittington, DVM (University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine) Doody's Review Service

(3 stars) -- Julia Whittington, DVM (University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine) Doody's Review Service Well laid out with many colour pictures and clear anatomical illustrations, the book achieves both these aims [to summarise avian medicine for use as both a quick reference guide for the busy clinician and a study guide]... The first chapter on clinical anatomy and physiology gives a thorough overview, with certain areas such as endocrine glands covered in particular detail... manages to condense a lot of information into a format that will be of great practical use to students of avian medicine and a useful addition to the practice bookshelf. Extra information on topics such as techniques involved in serological tests, mode of action of drugs and explanation of the standard electrocardiogram add an extra dimension, not found in similar texts. The author clearly draws on a wealth of experience and has written a book with much to recommend it. -- Michelle Barrows Journal of Small Animal Practice 20120701
