OverviewThe West prevails in its relations with the rest because, unlike the West, its adversaries do not uphold universal principles. They tend to be tribal. Islamists are the West's pre-eminent adversaries. But Islamists flounder, as they preach Islamism, a teaching of war, rather than Islam, a teaching of reconciliation. Islamists corrupted - politicized - the knowledge of revelation. Islamist jurists corrupted the knowledge of revelation by treating tradition as revelation, the repression of reason and the ""abrogation"" of all verses that teach reconciliation by the verse of the sword. The weaponization of revelation resulted in the rearticulation of the teaching of reconciliation as a teaching of war. The rights of all persons encompass freedoms in their different manifestations. The West also upholds due process and equality under the law. By contrast, there are no chapters in Bukhari on justice, ethics, reason or freedom. But there are plenty of traditions about where a person is to place his or her hands in prayer. Traditionists replace ethics with rituals. After returning to Egypt from France Muhammad 'Abduh reportedly said: ""I went to the West and saw Islam, but no Muslims; I got back to the East and saw Muslims, but not Islam."" The reason for the trauma of the umma is that is neglected the Book of Allah and threw the Book behind their backs, while they were to teach it to mankind. Traditionists replaced parts of revealed laws with rulings from traditions. State-sponsored jurists reinvented Islam as a teaching of war. To justify the turn from revelation to tradition, they disparaged the Book of Allah and questioned its perfection. They alleged that the Book is in parts ""unclear,"" ""insufficiently detailed,"" and ""contradictory."" These allegations reject verses that teach the contrary. To contradict a verse is an expression of kufr. The traditionalist exegesis of revelation embraces kufr of verses that teach that the Book is ""clear,"" ""fully detailed,"" and ""free of contradictions."" In besmirching the Book of Allah, traditionists transgressed. Islamist ulama corrupted the knowledge of Islam to justify the expansionary aims of hawkish rulers. They became aggressive and are experiencing retaliation for its aggression. The umma experiences reprisals in France in 732, at Baghdad in 1258, at Vienna in 1529 and 1683, in Iraq in 2003. They politicized revelation under the pretext of ""explaining"" and ""detailing"" the Book. The turn from revelation to tradition was an epic faux pas. It encourages replacing the Book of Allah with traditions. But do the practices of the forefathers guide better than Allah? Allah never changes the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. The umma changed the Book of Allah for traditions. Thus, it is experiencing trauma. Allah ""changed"" the condition of the umma. Parts of the umma are the ""protected persons"" at present. And who is protecting them? Those dreaded kuffar. Allah did not wrong the umma but it wronged itself. For Allah is never unjust to his servants. Allah said He would replace the umma with people that would love Him is the umma failed fulfil its part of the bargain as He ""replaced"" a few communities before. Recourse to the teaching of ""dual revelation"" tainted exegesis as well as jurisprudence with ""scriptural"" and ""juristic"" shirk, respectively. Treating traditions as ""revelations,"" ""equal to"" and even a ""part of the Book of Allah"" is an encroachment upon tawhid. For it is not possible to postulate a duality of revelation without encroaching upon tawhid. Accordingly, traditional exegesis and jurisprudence require purification from the corruption engendered by the teaching of dual revelation. For the traditions are not the verbatim utterings of the prophet. How could they be treated as ""equal"" to revelation from Allah? The treatment of tradition as revelation, assisted by the repression of reason, corrupted knowledge and enabled the rise of totalitarianism.
