Julius Caesar's Gallic War chronicles his nine-year conquest of Gaul (modern France and Belgium) from 58 to 50 BCE. This edition presents the first third of Book VII (Chapters 1-28) with Latin text, same-page vocabulary, and explanatory commentary. Within these pages the Roman imperator describes the rise of the Gallic leader Vercingetorix, the early moves of his peoples' rebellion against Roman domination, and the pivotal struggle between the Gallic coalition and the Roman legions for the Gallic town of Avaricum.
