Prior to teaching full time, he worked as a Volkswagen Master Technician and a Chevrolet Master Technician, as well as a shop foreman, service writer, parts consultant, and assistant manager. He has an AAS in Automotive Service Technology from Joliet Junior College, a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Governors State University, and a Masters of Education specializing in CTE from Concordia University. He is a member of the Mobile Air Conditioning Society, North American Council of Automotive Teachers, and the Illinois College Automotive Instructors Association. He lives south of Chicago with his wife and children. Kirk T. VanGelder is a Certified Automotive Technology Instructor at Cascadia Technical Academy, in Vancouver, Washington.
