Theo Santiago es el tercero de seis hermanos y creció en el seno de una familia católica muy numerosa en Inglaterra. El mayor deseo que cultivó desde pequeño fue conquistar la soledad. Después de sus estudios, ingresó en la orden de los monjes benedictinos, pero ya en sus años de bachillerato asistió a un monasterio. Siempre le gustó transcribir sus pensamientos y consideraciones en diarios que aún hoy conserva celosamente y que suele releer para comprobar la progresión de su persona. En consecuencia, prefirió abandonar la vía religiosa, no tanto por su falta de inclinación a seguir las reglas como por el poco aislamiento que le proporcionaba la vida. Encontró su paz en una pequeña casa en Lincolnshire, una zona elegida por sus hermosos paisajes y sus casas baratas. Su jornada comienza a las seis de la mañana con una oración que termina a las ocho. Hasta el mediodía, se dedica a escribir y caligrafiar. Tras el almuerzo y un breve descanso por la tarde, trabaja en casa o en el jardín y cuida de sus animales, que le ayudan a cubrir sus necesidades vitales y alimentarias y le hacen compañía.
