A four-book Great American Novel attempt by Ohio Mental Patient 44288. This man told me 35 years ago he'd try to write the GAN in the first by-line news story I ever wrote. But he was then already crazy and the feature was from an asylum so what the hell. But when I retired I got to thinking and tracked him down and found he left this absolutely unique treasure as the only legacy from his alcohol drenched, pathetic, and tragically short life. Damn, if this guy didn't put about all other attempts at GAN since 1962 and later to shame I'll eat a bug. A must read. This is the real life One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by a guy I know was there and who escaped without that pesky little lobotomy and one big Indian with the pillow.
