Overview

Audrey Evans was not a perfect child! Who would have guessed that when she grew up she would make an important medical discovery, found the Ronald McDonald Houses, and start a school? Kirkus Reviews praises this book as ""an intimate and rewarding biography of a remarkable doctor"" which ""repeatedly encourages young readers to believe that they too can accomplish more than they might expect."" It is most popular with children in Grades 1-6, but inspiring for all ages. Beautifully illustrated.

Dr. Marion Kayhart, Professor Emerita of Biology, Cedar Crest College In an era in which we are promoting careers in science as an accessible goal for girls, this book presents a blueprint of how one girl accepted the challenge and succeeded beyond her wildest dreams. Her experiences may stir the imagination of both girls and boys to visualize careers they never believed possible. But the book does more than encourage ambitious career goals. It includes illuminating references to history and geography and instances which demonstrate character development and the value of caring for others. In its pages readers will find compelling lessons about growing up to live a meaningful life. Dr. Marion Kayhart, Professor Emerita of Biology, Cedar Crest College
