Atlas of Urologic Surgery: The Complete Illustrated Guide to Open, Robotic, and Minimally Invasive Procedures with Surgical Anatomy, Operative Pearls, and Complication Avoidance for Urologists and Residents

Overview

Urologic surgery spans one of the broadest operative landscapes in all of surgery. From percutaneous renal access to robotic radical prostatectomy, from complex urinary diversion to microsurgical sperm retrieval, the urologist must command a technical range that few other surgical specialties demand. This atlas was built to support that range in full. The Atlas of Urologic Surgery is a comprehensive illustrated operative reference covering the complete spectrum of open, robotic, and minimally invasive urologic procedures. It is written for practicing urologists, urology residents and fellows, robotic surgery trainees, and any surgeon who requires a procedure-level reference grounded in surgical anatomy, operative technique, and evidence-based decision making. The atlas is organized across seven sections and covers every major domain of urologic surgery. The renal surgery section covers open, laparoscopic, and robotic radical and partial nephrectomy including zero-ischaemia and early unclamping techniques, live donor nephrectomy, pyeloplasty by open and robotic approaches, percutaneous nephrolithotomy across standard and mini-PCNL platforms, flexible ureteroscopy and retrograde intrarenal surgery, renal tumour ablation including cryotherapy and radiofrequency ablation, renal trauma reconstruction, and vena caval thrombectomy for renal cell carcinoma across all Mayo classification levels including cardiopulmonary bypass approaches. Adrenal surgery is covered across laparoscopic transperitoneal, posterior retroperitoneoscopic, and robotic approaches, with dedicated operative guidance for pheochromocytoma and cortical-sparing partial adrenalectomy. Ureteral and endoscopic surgery chapters cover ureteroneocystostomy by extravesical and intravesical techniques, Boari flap reconstruction, ileal ureteral replacement, nephroureterectomy with bladder cuff management, semi-rigid and flexible ureteroscopy, endopyelotomy, and endoscopic management of upper tract urothelial carcinoma. Bladder surgery chapters cover TURBT including blue-light cystoscopy and en bloc resection techniques, radical cystectomy in male and female patients with nerve-sparing approaches, robotic-assisted radical cystectomy with intracorporeal diversion, extended pelvic lymph node dissection, and the full spectrum of urinary diversion including ileal conduit, Studer neobladder, Indiana pouch, Mitrofanoff appendicovesicostomy, and bladder augmentation. Vesicovaginal and ureterovaginal fistula repair is covered across vaginal, abdominal, and robotic approaches including gracilis muscle flap interposition for radiation-induced fistulae. Prostate surgery chapters cover TURP, HoLEP, ThuLEP, Greenlight photovaporisation, open and robotic simple prostatectomy, emerging technologies including Aquablation and REZUM, open and robotic radical prostatectomy including the Retzius-sparing approach, nerve-sparing fascial plane dissection, and prostate focal therapy including HIFU, cryotherapy, and brachytherapy. Urethral, continence, pelvic floor, and gender-affirming surgery are each addressed with full operative detail. Scrotal, testicular, and penile surgery close the atlas covering radical orchiectomy, RPLND, microsurgical varicocelectomy, vasectomy reversal, micro-TESE, penile prosthesis implantation, hypospadias repair, Peyronie's disease surgery, and oncologic penile surgery. Every chapter includes a surgical anatomy primer, operative pearls and pitfalls boxes, step-by-step procedural guidance, a complications and avoidance section with Clavien-Dindo graded management, an evidence-based medicine box referencing AUA and EAU guidelines, an operative decision algorithm, and patient safety alerts. The atlas contains several surgical illustrations, operative photographs, anatomical diagrams, and decision flowcharts distributed across all chapters.
